The Lonely Lands

The Lonely Lands is a name given to a province that covers the region from Rivaux to Stonely. It has no potentate in charge of it, but rather is a collection of individual towns under individual barons. It represents the most northerly frontier of the Milean empire (a grace that was once given to the Free Territories that became Frelonde). In order to defend this region from incursion (both of the goblin and human varieties) the local barons have arranged a semi-formal agreement by which they share resources between the various villes and towns of the borderland. This is known as the Vigilant Curia, and is under the proprietorship of the Castellan of the fortress called Northgate.

The physical terrain of the Lonely Lands ranges from low hills and heath near the Whitespears to large expanses of flat grassy plainland and waste in the Empty Plains. The Plains themselves provide a haven for burrowing creatures of all kinds; from gnolls to basilisks, they are made unpleasant and uninhabitable by the native life there. The gnolls are of a particularly nasty variety, and most Lonely Landers believe they are related to those found in the Plain of Fear in Teral.
